How we verify every listing.

An opportunity is only useful if the deadline and the details are right. Here's exactly how advance.to finds, checks, re-checks and removes listings, and how we stay independent.

  1. 1FoundFrom organisers' and funders' own pages, official calls and organiser submissions.
  2. 2Checked at the sourceDeadline, amount and eligibility read from the organiser's own page, never from another listing site.
  3. 3Re-checked weeklyEvery official page is re-fetched each week and any change is reviewed by hand.
  4. 4Removed when closedListings drop off automatically the day after their deadline.

How we find opportunities

We track AI fellowships, residencies and funded PhDs, research and startup grants, compute and cloud credits, accelerators, and competitions. We find them on organisers' and funders' own websites, in official calls for applications and announcements, and through submissions from organisers.

We only list an opportunity if the organiser has published it on a page we can link to. Rumours, social posts and other listing sites can point us to something, but they're never the source.

How each listing is checked

  • Source page. Every listing links to the organiser's own page, and the listing's side box says which site we checked it against and when ("Checked against …").
  • Deadline. Recorded exactly as the organiser states it, with their wording alongside. If no date has been published, we show "Date TBC" or "Rolling" rather than guess.
  • What you get. Amounts are quoted from the organiser's own wording. We don't convert currencies or estimate values, and if a figure isn't published we say so.
  • Eligibility. Summarised from the organiser's rules. Our "Who it's for" and "Where" tags are filters to help you search, not eligibility decisions.
  • Evidence. For each listing we save a short verbatim phrase from the organiser's page (such as the prize total or the deadline line). Our weekly check looks for it again, so we notice when a page changes.
  • Date checked. Every listing shows the date we last verified it ("Verified 31 Oct").

Re-verified every week

Every week an automated check re-reads every organiser page we list. It flags a listing when:

  • the page has changed since the last check,
  • the phrase we verified no longer appears,
  • the page can't be reached, or
  • the deadline has passed.

An editor reviews every flag by hand against the organiser's page, then updates the listing, marks it closed or removes it. When a listing is re-checked, its "Verified" date changes.

When an opportunity closes

Listings leave our lists, counts and the Monday email automatically the day after their deadline. We use the date "anywhere on Earth", so nothing disappears while it's still open somewhere. You don't have to wait for the weekly check.

A closed listing's page stays up, clearly marked "This opportunity has closed", with links to similar opportunities that are still open. Many programmes run every year, so the page also points to the organiser for the next round. Closed pages are hidden from search engines so they don't send people to deadlines that have passed.

Deadline times and time zones vary by organiser. Always confirm the exact cut-off on the official page before you apply.

Independence

  • advance.to is independent and isn't affiliated with any organiser we list.
  • Listing is free. Nobody can pay to be included, to change what a listing says, or to have a listing removed.
  • We plan to offer featured listings and newsletter sponsorships. These will always be clearly labelled "Featured" or "Sponsored", will go through the same checks as every other listing, and will never change the ranking: lists stay sorted by deadline (or by the sort you choose).
  • Apply buttons go straight to the organiser's own page.

Corrections

If you spot a wrong deadline, amount, eligibility rule or link, or a listing that has closed, use Request an update on our Submit page (or the "Report a correction" button on any listing) with the listing's link and, if you can, the organiser page that shows the right detail. Organisers can use the same form to update their own listings.

We re-check every report against the organiser's page, usually within two working days, and fix the listing as soon as it's confirmed. If a guide gets a significant correction, we note it on the guide with the date.

Who's behind it

Listings and guides are researched and written by Sam at advance.to. Sam is an editor at advance.to who tracks and verifies AI funding opportunities: fellowships, grants, compute credits, accelerators and competitions. You can reach us through our contact page.
